Have you ever wondered why your kids won’t just do what you know they can?
Last weekend, we snuck off to get in another day of snowboarding after an epic storm.
The weather was beautiful, the mountain was out, and it was going to be perfect. And, it was. Mostly.
Except that part where we questioned our sanity for taking the boys. 🤨
Whether it was the lack of sleep, the small breakfast after insisting he was full, or who knows what else, Garrett was pretty much not having it.
He reverted back to the riding he was doing a year ago, was fearful of making turns, and scared that he would fall. At different points during the day, both of us were incredibly frustrated. Me especially on the last, painfully slow run I took with him down to the car.
And, not because he was slow. Kids are when they are learning. That’s expected.
But, because I know he CAN do better.
About the time we were ready to give him a piece of my mind, we had to take a step back and remind ourselves that with kids it’s not about learning a new skill every day.
It’s not even about being as good as you were last time.
It’s about creating a love of the outdoors and a desire to go again.
We'd be lying if we told you that every adventure we go on is easy. It's not. But, we do have systems and tools in place to make it easIER. But, we all have our days. And, Sunday was definitely his... 🤪
So, we sucked it up, gave the boys some hot chocolate, and everyone ended on a happy note. Well, after we snuck away for a few runs of our own with our friends, that is. 😜
