Following last week's Ayurveda training, I was challenged to create a new dinacharya (daily routine) for the next 40 days.⁣⁣⠀ ⁣⁣⠀ ⁣⁣⠀ A dinacharya is the healthy habits you practice first thing in the morning and/or before bed. It helps start & end your day with gratitude, intention and mindfulness. Adho Mukha Vrksasana (handstand) is really mountain pose upside down. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you can think about this when you are upside down it really helps your ability to balance in the pose. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In downward dog, place your fingertips an inch or two away from a wall, hands shoulder-width. If your shoulders are tight, turn your index fingers out slightly rather than parallel. Firm your shoulder blades against your back torso and pull them toward your tailbone. Then rotate your upper arms outward, to keep the shoulder blades broad, and hug your outer arms inward. Finally spread your palms and press the bases of the index fingers firmly against the floor.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now bend your left knee and step the foot in, closer to the wall but keep the right leg active by extending through the heel. Take a few practice hops before you try to launch yourself upside down. Sweep your right leg through a wide arc toward the wall and kick your left foot off the floor, immediately pushing through the heel to straighten the left knee. As both legs come off the ground, engage your deep core abdominal muscles to help lift your hips over your shoulders. Hop up and down like this several times, each time pushing off the floor a little higher. Exhale deeply each time you hop.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hopping up and down like this may be all you can manage for now. Regularly practice strengthening poses, like Adho Mukha Svanasana and Plank Pose. Eventually you'll be able to kick all the way into the pose. At first your heels may crash into the wall, but again with more practice you'll be able to swing your heels up lightly to the wall.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If your armpits and groins are tight, your lower back may be deeply arched. To lengthen this area, draw your front ribs into your torso, reach your tailbone toward your heels, and slide your heels higher up the wall. Squeeze the outer legs together and roll the thighs in. Hang your head from a spot between your shoulder blades and gaze out into the center of the room.

It is a very important practice to be able to be aware of and identify your feelings. As I explained, this is a really important part of manifesting what you want in life. I also explained how important it is to lift your vibration to the level of a “LOVE” vibration because that is the vibration of creation.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The one thing I didn’t address was how to work with the recurrence of lower-level feelings and emotions that may be keeping you “stuck” in your tracks. Ok so here’s the truth. ⁠ ⁠ For a long time I worried about how it would seem to others that I have different parts of me that somehow coexist even though they have different languages and style. ⁠ ⁠ I have one foot in the world of art museums and one in the world of yoga and spirituality. ⁠ ⁠ I worried what my art world peeps would think if they knew how wooey I can be. ⁠ ⁠ I worried what my yoga peeps would think if they knew I love a good martini and have upped my use of FUCK as a mama rather than cleaning it up.⁠ ⁠ But something shifted in me as I’ve gotten older and invested a lot in good therapy and coaching. ⁠ ⁠ I'm welcoming it all. I'm willing for you to see it all. ⁠ ⁠ Does that mean I don’t have days I want to hide? No. I still have days I want to hide, so I hide. And with labels come expectations of how we live up to them. . From society, from the people around us, from ourselves. . Its no wonder we're so used to identifying ourselves as our labels. . But that's not who we ARE . We are our own unique blend of our qualities, feelings, thoughts and actions that are ever-evolving . People often come to me feeling the pressure of living up to *at least* one of their labels. With their labels, brings a list of things they 'should' be doing or being 'more of' to live up to that identity. To the carers and kind-hearted people I work with it feels like: If they are they are a manager, they should be more professional. If they are in a relationship, they should be more romantic. If they are a mum, they should be more sympathetic. If they are a carer, they should be more patient. .
