Cuando vas a un lugar a desayunar o merendar, hay varias posibilidades de pedirte cosas saludables... Here’s a Throw Back Thursday that’ll be sure to give you shivers! . Keep swiping and you’ll see three medical treatments that were used in the early 1900s. . 1) Gasoline to cure lice: Got lice?? No problem! Let’s put some gasoline in your hair! That’ll kill those little nasty bugs.....and possibly you as well! . Yikes! Thank goodness someone came up with a less dangerous product to get rid of lice! . 2) Morphine for teething: now as a mom to a child who NEVER slept as a baby and who cried non-stop while teething...I’ll admit for a split second, this sounded tempting. But knowing the dangers of morphine (umm addictive and baby could DIE), I wouldn’t. Again, I’m now thankful for Childrens Advil and gum numbing lotion....though neither helped much...lol 3) Drinking Radium (as in radioactive) water.!! 🤢💀 Back then, this killer water was believed to cure ailments such as arthritis AND impotence..... Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!! Up here in Canada, we celebrate Thanksgiving earlier then our US friends. Wanna know a few historical facts about Canadian Thanksgiving? Ok! According to the online Canadian Encylopedia, the first official annual Thanksgiving in Canada was on November 6, 1879! Then in 1957 Thanksgiving was proclaimed an annual event to occur on the 2nd Monday of October. You’ll need to refer to the Canadian Encyclopedia for more information. From everyone here at The Gut Nerd (and by we I mean me. Lol) we hope you have a great day of eating turkey and spending time with those who mean the most to you. The Gut Nerd has been spending the Thanksgiving weekend at the in-laws house. Thanksgiving falls on October 14th this year and that is my birthday! How did your week go? Did you try any new recipes? Being on the 131 Method Online Program has allowed me to experiment and try out different recipes with my family. Some they loved. Some....not so much. Pretty much anything fish related (except for shrimp), was a big ol..ewwwwwww!! However, I have posted 5 recipes that my kids devoured. Keep swiping to see them all. My favorite of the 5? The Sausage Bake. I love it so much that I’m gonna share the recipe below. If you want the rest then you’ll need to get the book or click on my link and sign up for the program. (https://mbsy.co/zwGmC) Sausage Bake Ingredients: ▪️1 lb humanely raised pork breakfast sausage (do your best, if you can’t find humanely raised pork then go for the regular pork) ▪️8 eggs ▪️3/4 cup almond meal ▪️3 tablespoons ground flax ▪️1 tablespoon ghee (or unsalted butter) ▪️1 green onion chopped ▪️1/2 tsp garlic powder ▪️1/2 tsp baking powder ▪️1/4 tsp sea salt ▪️pinch of pepper ▪️1 tablespoon nutritional yeast Directions: Preheat oven to 350 F In a medium skillet, add pork sausage and brown on all sides, using a spatula to break apart into small pieces. Cook for 5 minutes, or until cooked through. Set aside, reserving 2 tablespoons or so of the grease. In a stand mixer, add the eggs and mix on medium speed for 1 minute. Add almond flour, flax, ghee, green onion, garlic powder, baking powder, salt and pepper and mix for 20 seconds. Add sausage and grease and mix until well-combined. Pour into a greased 9 x 9 inch baking dish. Sprinkle with nutritional yeast. Bake for 40 minutes, or until set. Mmmmmmmm, I’m hungry just typing that! Save this post and give the recipe a try. Why is The Gut Nerd such a Nerd when it comes to all things gut?? This kid right here. She’s the reason. As her mom I am VERY protective of her and don’t usually post pictures of her in public social media. However, I wanted to explain why I am so passionate about gut health and why I am constantly encouraging people to give the 131 Method online program a try. This sweet child is the reason why. Which is why I am taking a great risk and sharing her face today. Plus today is her birthday. When Stella was born, we knew we wanted to make sure that she lived the best life possible. In our search to help her immune system (she was sick a lot as a baby and toddler), we discovered the importance of a healthy gut and that means a balanced gut microbiome. In making changes in Stella’s diet and incorporating vitamin therapy, we have seen her immune system improve. However the battle for balance is ongoing and ever changing. My research led me to want a healthier gut for the rest of our family. Finding the 131 Method Book was a game changer for me. I had no idea how to stop consuming sugar and reading the 131 Method helped me to figure it out and take that leap. Now my gut is healing, I feel stronger and feel better then ever! I’m able to make dinners for me and my family that I know are gut healthy, even if my kids don’t always like them. Recently, someone jokingly referred to me as "instagram healthy" - darling, I know you were joking - but it got me thinking! I drink weird coloured shakes every day, packed with veggies, and all kinds of super yummy deliciousness that I know are great for me. I post about it, trying to encourage others to do the same. I also get comments from people saying, "I couldn't do what you do", and it's usually because they love cake, or chips, or boozing. "Come on", I thought, "you really think I don't do all these things still?" And it occurred to me that maybe people think I don't. OF COURSE I DO! Guys, I binge. I USED to binge LOADS, and now it's a lot less. I started making sure I ate more veggies and, little by little, that started to help. Last night I ate a bunch of chocolate. I'm not condoning it, but if I'm gonna be more open about everything then I have to be honest about... well, everything. So, eat a bunch of veggies, you'll feel a poop tonne better. And if you follow that with a whole box of chocolate covered Oreos, don't sweat it. Work on it with yourself, and know you made some good choices to try and combat some negative behaviours.
