Yesterday was National Hug Day.
Hugs are powerful and healing! They create support, release oxytocin, help with heart health, communicate love and unity, help lower stress and anxiety, and have many more benefits. Hugs are my favorite. I grew up in a very huggy family. I also have no problem asking for a hug if I want one (appropriately of course! and I support being told “no” too 😂).
Hugs also work mentally! You can imagine hugging someone or receiving a hug, sitting with that image and your breath, and will feel positive effects too. You can also wrap your arms around yourself and show yourself that same care and attention. I’m a big advocate for this.
I also hug trees. They’re alive and magnificent. They speak to me and if that is weird to you, feel free to ask me more. I’ve hugged trees since I was a little girl. I will continue to until my final days on earth. Here I am hugging Redwoods as I explored Muir Woods with my man. It’s one of my fave candid shots. 💫
We need trees more and more. They are VITAL in so many ways!!! So, friends, on hug day and everyday, I invite you to hug trees, animals, people, yourself. Feel the magic. ❤️
